Romans 8 v 1 – 4
There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. For the law of the Spirit of life has set you free in Christ Jesus from the law of sin and death. For God has done what the law, weakened by the flesh, could not do. By sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh and for sin, he condemned sin in the flesh, in order that the righteous requirement of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not according to the flesh but according to the Spirit. (ESV)
When the Spirit of God comes into a person, that life is changed forever.
There are three areas from which we are delivered from.
- The Sentence (penalty) of Sin (v 1):
The soul that sins shall die. The Law can’t deliver us, neither can our good works.
a. The Promise of God – no condemnation.
b. The Place is a Person – Christ Jesus the Lord.
Hear Him as your Prophet, receive Him as your Priest and obey Him as your King.
c. The Proof – walking in the Spirit, not in the flesh. - The Slavery (power) of Sin (v 2):
a. The law of the sin life – unsaved people are under control of the flesh, the world and the Devil and need to repent and believe.
b. The Law of the Spirit life – by the power of the Spirit believers have been given the means to say no the means of Grace and a holy life. - The Sickness of Sin:
a. The weakness of the Law (v 3) – the Law cannot heal, only Christ can.
b. The work of the Law (v 4) – the moment lost sinners put their trust in Christ alone, they are declared perfect in the eyes of God by the finished work of Jesus Christ.
It’s a new life – it’s a glorious life to be in the Lord Jesus Christ.
