“Enter by the narrow gate. For the gate is wide and the way is easy that leads to destruction, and those who enter by it are many. For the gate is narrow and the way is hard that leads to life, and those who find it are few.” (ESV)
Where you spend eternity will be determined by what you do in this life.
We need to live our lives as those who know what we believe.
We are going to leave this world soon and spend it either in heaven or in hell.
It’s not our believing that makes the Bible true — it’s because God said it.
If you die, where will you spend eternity?
- Two Possible Directions in Life
a. A broad (spacious) way in which anything goes and people can be their own god, find all the things that please them. It’s an easy way to live — no one to please but themselves to please.
What people on the broad road need to know:
(i) On the broad way, you aren’t in control – the dark side is.
(ii) Sin brings with it pain and sorrow.
(iii) God offers a better alternative. Those who follow Him enjoy a lot of blessings.
b. The narrow (constricted) way which is difficult. You can’t make the rules anymore, but must follow the Lord’s commands.
The narrow way honours God, fulfilling the purpose of your life, namely to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.
- Two Possible Destinations in Eternity
a. The broad way leads to total and utter destruction in hell — something to be afraid of: unquenchable fire… undiluted wrath from the God of glory. It’s the land of the damned.
b. The narrow way leads to heaven — a place of rest and unspeakable joy. No tears, pain, sorrow, death — everything that hell is not.
There we will see His face!
- Two Possible Decisions to Make
a. A wide gate where you can choose to enter. When people go through the wide gate they end up on the broad road.
b. A narrow gate which must be sought out. It’s an open gate and gives opportunity to life for those who enter it. It’s a restrictive gate through which you leave your sinful baggage behind.
