41 What kind of life are you building on the Foundation

Matthew 7:24-27

“Everyone then who hears these words of mine and does them will be like a wise man who built his house on the rock. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat on that house, but it did not fall, because it had been founded on the rock. And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” (ESV)

What do the houses represent, what storms are our Lord speaking of and how should we live?

The houses represent our lives, which we are building on a foundation – our world and life view. If you build on the wrong foundation, your house will not withstand the storms which can be physical in nature. It can also be figurative or financial storms. There will be the final storm of death and judgment that none can escape.

Obeying the Lord Jesus Christ is the key to building well.
What our Lord is teaching us is not to make us feel better, but for us to build better.

How do you respond – being a hearer only, or a doer of what He commands?

You will withstand the storms of life if you:

  1. Lay up treasure in heaven, not on earth.
  2. Seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness.
