25 Prayer is About Resigning

Matthew 6 v 9 – 13

9 Pray then like this: “Our Father in heaven, hallowed be Your Name. 10 Your kingdom come, Your will be done, on earth as it is in heaven. 11 Give us this day our daily bread, 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. (ESV)

We are to allow the Lord to reign in our lives, but it also about resigning – yielding to God’s will.

God’s will:

  1. A Definition
God is sovereign and absolutely in control, but He still commands us to pray like our prayers will make a difference.
    a. God’s will of decree – things that will not and cannot change.
    b. God’s will of desire – things that God wants to happen, but may not come to pass.
The will that we must pray for is God’s decreed will.

  2. A Depiction
God’s will is done in heaven completely, consistently and constantly, but on earth it is not done due to the activity of Satan.  There is desperate need for God’s will to be done on earth as it is in heaven, for which we must pray.

  3. A Duty
We need God’s will to be done in our lives – for Him to take our lives to conform it to His Word and His will. You’re going to have to take things into your life which you don’t want. It is giving our lives to God to do with as He pleases.

If you pray ‘Thy will be done’ you are praying ‘Lord, help me to do Your will completely, consistently and constantly as it is in heaven’. Are you committed for the will of God in your life?
